A four-wheel-drive has become airborne, rolling over the bonnet of another car and hitting another before landing on its roof upon being struck by a vehicle at an intersection in Melbourne.

It’s believed the driver of a Honda Civic ran a red light in Wantirna shortly after 9:15pm yesterday, moments before it collided with the four-wheel-drive.

The driver and a passenger of the four-wheel-drive suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

Senior Constable Travis Forrest said it was lucky no one was killed or seriously injured.

"Amazingly we have had minor injuries and police are still investigating what actually happened tonight," Snr COnst. Forrest said.

"This highlights the need for safety on our roads and always to be aware of your surroundings."

The intersection was closed while police investigated the crash, but it has since reopened.
