Five people have been rescued from units above a Sydney dollar shop that erupted in flames this morning.
Authorities said the fire broke out in the Leumeah shop just after 6am.
A man, who was in the car park when he saw the flames, said he ran up to the units above to get the sleeping residents to safety.
“I see the flames coming out, I rang the landlord and the landlord said get the people out,” he said.
“I kicked the front door in.”
“I said ‘there’s a fire, get out, get out’.”
Two people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the blaze remains unknown.
