The daughter of a World War II veteran has made an emotional appeal for her father's stolen war medals to be returned to her family.

Police say the medals were stolen along with a laptop, an iPad and jewellery around midday on Tuesday 18 October 2016, at a home in the NSW Blue Mountains on Levy Street in Glenbrook.

"Mum was crying and said the house had been broken into... and later we realised that my dad's war medals had been stolen as well," Ann Smith the daughter of the victim said.

"The war medals are the only things that can't be replaced. We were obviously devastated and we don't really understand how anyone could take something like that, that means nothing to them, but clearly means something to the family."

Sadly the recipient of the medals, Bill Summers, died 15 years ago.

"He was so proud of those medals" and "that's pretty much all we've got left of him," his daughter said.

The medals are an ‘Australian Service Medal 1939-1945’, a ‘War Medal 1939-1945’, a ‘Pacific Star’.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
