Six people arrested after Molotov cocktail thrown at police officer in Cranbourne North

Six people have been arrested after a pursuit through Melbourne’s south-east, which began when a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a police officer.

Police were conducting a welfare check in Cypress Court, Cranbourne  North, about 8.30am AEDT when they were allegedly attacked.

They found a man unconscious in the car and called paramedics before two vehicles arrived at the property.

A Molotov cocktail was then thrown from one of the cars towards the officers, police said.

“I heard a huge bang, and I looked around and just saw the window smash. It was right next to the police officer,” a nearby resident told 9NEWS.

“It shattered right next to his face.”

It hit one of the officers in the arm, but he was not injured.

Police then chased the car to Village Drive in Hampton Park, about 5km away, and arrested four people there after they tried to flee on foot.

Officers say it took ten minutes to arrest the four people who piled out of the car – the two men and two women were all found in the vicinity of Pound and Hallam Roads.

Another was located hiding behind a fence at a house down the road, while the man who required the welfare check was also taken into custody.

No charges have yet been laid.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
