Heavy rain, damaging hail and brutal winds have battered south-east Queensland as a series of storms passed through the region.
A wind gust of 157km/h was recorded at Brisbane Airport at 5.35pm, while a short burst of nearly horizontal rain drenched families in Sandgate.
The storms followed a spell of hot, humid weather but that should ease by tomorrow.
"The good news is a lot dryer air [is] pushing through tomorrow, so a drop in humidity and a bit of a drop in temperatures as well [can be expected]," the Bureau of Meteorology's Michelle Berry said.
In Bauple, a small town north of Gympie, a freak storm tore roofs from buildings and knocked locals off their feet.
"This gust of breeze came and literally lifted me off my feet as I was coming up the stairs," Sue Collins told 9NEWS.
A section of roof at Marcus and Yolande Bromet's Macadamia House business in Bauple was thrown more than 100m by a wind gust.
"We never had any intention for a sunroof," Mrs Bromet joked.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) earlier issued a severe thunderstorm warning for residents in Brisbane, Redland City and the Moreton Bay region.
