An explosion at a loading dock at a food court in Sydney’s Chinatown has injured at least 14 people, including a two-year-old child.
Two hundred people were evacuated after the explosion, which occurred shortly before 8pm at the Dixon House Food Court on Little Hay Street in Haymarket.
The force of the blast, which is understood to have been from a gas main, caused a roller-door to blow out, sending metal flying.
Five adults were taken to hospitals in the Sydney area for treatment.
One child was also rushed to hospital after being hit with a piece of flying metal.
NSW Fire & Rescue said the gas main has not been isolated, however it has been clamped shut.
HAZMAT crews are monitoring the situation for further gas leaks.
Roads are blocked in the area as authorities attempt to get control the emergency.
Witnesses told 9NEWS the explosion sounded like thunder.
“It was a bit scary because I was walking by a lot of smoke. I thought there was a collapsed something but it was actually explosions,” one woman said.
