The family of missing Melbourne mother Karen Ristevski say they are disgusted by reports her stepson is attempting to sell a story to the media for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Anthony Rickard, a son of Mrs Ristevski's husband Borce, is believed to have spoken to several media outlets in an attempt to sell an exclusive interview about his relationship with his stepmother for $200,000.
It is understood Mr Rickard claims he had an intimate relationship with Mrs Ristevski.
Mrs Ristevski's nephew, Chris Ristevski, says his family is disgusted by any bid to profit from their heartache.
"That's the type of person he is," Mr Ristevski told A Current Affair.
"He's used everyone around him, he's used Karen and Borce. Karen and Borce have both given him cars, which he's totally destroyed. Money, accommodation and he's just abused it."
Mr Ristevski claims Mr Rickard contacted his aunt 10 days before her disappearance on June 29 in a bid to finance his stay in a rehabilitation facility for an addiction to the drug ice.
He also claims to have received a text message from Mr Rickard enquiring about a firearm.
Mr Rickard was contacted by A Current Affair but declined to comment. He has previously spoken publicly about being questioned by detectives investigating his stepmother's disappearance and denied killing her but said he "would have liked to".
Former homicide detective Charlie Bezzina said any demand for cash in sensitive circumstances disgusted him.
"In my years as an investigator, I've never come across something like this," Mr Bezzina told A Current Affair.
"As an investigator, you look at it and say, what are his motives? Is he out there to muddy the waters? Is he just a desperate person who just wants dollars from a media organisation? What are his motives in relation to doing it?"
Police continue to search for Mrs Ristevski who has not used her phone or bank accounts since leaving her home to "clear her head" almost two months ago.
