Disturbing video has been released by a US court of a college football star punching a woman unconscious inside a sandwich shop.

Joe Mixon, a running back with the University of Oklahoma and a top NFL draft prospect, punched Amelia Molitor in a shop in July 2014.

Ms Molitor, now 22, suffered broken bones in her face and Mixon was charged over the assault.

Mixon, 20, was placed on probation for a year, ordered to complete 100 hours of community service and banned for the entire 2014 season over the sickening attack, but avoided jail.

Ms Molitor is now suing Mixon in a federal court.

Earlier this month, the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled the video should be released to the public after local broadcasters filed a legal motion.

The football star apologised to his victim again after the video was released.

“Mr Mixon asked us to once again say he is sorry for the way he reacted that night,” Mixon’s attorney Blake Johnson told US media outlets.

“He has apologised publicly to Ms Molitor, her friends, his family, teammates and the University.

“He hopes that his voluntary release of these recordings will help put this matter to rest.”
