Former One Nation Senator Rod Culleton has been declared bankrupt in the Federal Court in Perth, a ruling which could end his term in the Senate.
Mr Culleton, who recently left the One Nation party and planned to serve as an independent, was in court over a $280,000 debt owed to a creditor.
If the bankruptcy verdict is upheld, by law Mr Culleton would be disqualified from serving as a senator.
He has 21 days to appeal the ruling in the Federal Court
Mr Culleton told Judge Michael Barker, "you've executed me" as the ruling was announced.
Speaking to reporters, Mr Culleton denied he was bankrupt and expressed his anger at the court process.
"I'm just in a legal rip, I'll just float on my back for a while and swim to the side," Mr Culleton said.
"I'm not bankrupt at the moment – 21 days it's been stayed."
