The father of a nine-year-old boy who was allegedly struck and killed by a ute driver in Logan on Christmas Day has shared an emotional embrace with the accused.

Josiah Sisson was looking at Christmas lights with his family in Springwood on Sunday night when he was hit by a ute allegedly driven by Adrian Murray.

Josiah was taken in a critical condition to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital but died on Tuesday.

At a worship service for the young boy of Potter’s House Christian Church, Mr Murray collapsed into the arms of Josiah’s father, Karl Sisson.

"He collapsed into Karl’s arms and he (Josiah’s father) was brave enough and manly enough to catch him and treat him courteously," Pastor Peter Field told the Courier Mail.

"As you could imagine, it was a very emotional time for everyone there," Pastor Field added.

Josiah’s family have said they do not condone the alleged actions of the Mr Murray, "but forgive" him.

Mr Murray, 24, was yesterday charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and driving a motor vehicle whilst under the influence.

It is alleged Mr Murray was three times over the legal alcohol limit when he ploughed through an intersection and into a house, killing Josiah.

Mr Murray is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on February 14 and was granted bail.

He faces up to 14 years in jail.
