Detectives investigating the death of a British exotic dancer at a strip club in Melbourne's CBD are awaiting the results of her toxicology reports.
Stacey Tierney, 29, was found in a room in Dreams Gentleman's Club on December 19 at 11.50am after partying in the Elizabeth Street venue the night before with several unidentified men.
The men had access to the venue, which is closed on Sundays.
9NEWS understands Ms Tierney, from Manchester, had been feeling unwell when she arrived at the club, and that two staff members stayed with her in the venue while another called Triple Zero.
"The exact circumstances surrounding the English woman's death are yet to be determined and a post-mortem will be conducted," a police spokeswoman said.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV, although private areas of the venue are not recorded.
Ms Tierney's friend Ashley said she was devastated that the 29-year-old had been left without medical assistance.
"I personally hope someone is charged for this. I’d like to see them punished. I told her not to work there. I thought it was a bit dodgy," Ashley told the Herald Sun.
“I miss her so much. I was hysterical when I was told. I couldn’t stop crying. It’s not fair."
Ms Tierney, who arrived in Australia three years ago and moved to Brisbane before settling in Melbourne last year, had wanted to train to become a nurse.
She had worked at the club, promoted as “Melbourne’s finest table top dancing venue”, for five weeks.
Her mother Michelle was only notified about the 29-year-old's death yesterday, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Her cousin Colleen Sarah launched a crowdfunding campaign to have the young woman's body returned home.
"We started the fundraising two days ago and the response we’ve had has been amazing. At the moment we just don’t know whether she had insurance or not," she said.
"We obviously knew how great she was. We were so proud of her and spoke to her all the time. She was so fit and loved dancing. She came back for Christmas last year."
The family has raised more than A$18,000.
Victoria Police continue investigations into the incident and are awaiting Ms Tierney’s toxicology results.
