Gold Coast theme park Dreamworld has suffered a 63 percent drop in revenue after re-opening in the wake of last year’s fatal accident compared to the same period a year ago.

Ardent Leisure this morning revealed the results in a trade update for Dreamworld and Whitewater World theme parks.

Collective revenue for the parks was $3.6 million between their re-opening on December 10 through to December 31, a 63 percent drop from last year.

The company claimed “progressive re-opening of Dreamworld’s thrill rides” after the closure had “negatively impacted attendance and revenues”.

Four people lost their lives on the Thunder River Rapids ride on October 25, triggering a state-wide safety audit on Gold Coast theme parks.

Seven of Dreamworld’s “Big 9 thrill rides” are still out of operation, including the Tower of Terror II, WipeOut and Shockwave.

Ardent Leisure said the rides are scheduled to open again “before the end of January 2017”.
