A 26-year-old man has appeared in court after being charged over the death of a female police officer in east Melbourne yesterday morning.
Samandeep Singh appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today charged with culpable driving and dangerous driving causing death.
Police allege Mr Singh ploughed his truck into the officer’s stationary motorbike at the intersection of Boronia Road and the EastLink on-ramp, in Wantirna, just before 9am.
The officer, aged in her 40s, was trapped under the truck and died at the scene despite efforts of emergency services.
Mr Singh did not apply for bail and he was remanded in custody to reappear for a committal mention on May 4.
