A pair of work boots have been recalled by their US maker after a man discovered they left tiny swastika prints on the pavement.

An unnamed Reddit user posted a side-by-side comparison of the Polar Fox Men’s boot sole and their prints to the online forum earlier this week.

The image, viewed more than three million times, showed pavement marked with a series of distinct swastika prints.

“An angle I didn’t get to see when ordering my new work boots,” the Reddit user captioned.

California-based shoe maker Conal International Trading Inc. told the NY Daily News the boots had been recalled after “multiple complaints”.

“The design was not intentional and was a mistake made by our manufacturers in China," a company spokesperson said in a statement to the Daily News.

“Our sincerest apologies to our customers and to anyone who was offended by the swastika imprint that the boots left behind."

Online retailer Amazon has also removed the boots from their website without issuing a statement.
