The South Australian Government is set to crack down on parents whose children’s vaccinations are not up to date.

SA Health said children will not be allowed to attend government preschools or childcare centres at the time of an illness outbreak if their vaccinations are not up to date.

Parents will be asked to show their child’s immunisation records from the start of Term 2.

If their child’s vaccination records are not up to date and there is an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease, such as chickenpox, the child will be made to stay home.

The state health service will determine how long the unvaccinated child will stay at home.

SA Health Minister Jack Snelling is also looking to draft laws which will give childcare centres the right to refuse the enrolment of unvaccinated children.

With AAP.
