A man is fighting for life after he was allegedly attacked by dogs and set on fire by another man after a dispute in Wollongong.

A 45-year-old man was walking with a woman, 44, when the pair got into an argument with a man near his unit in Myuna Way in Mangerton about 9pm last night, police said.

The 41-year-old resident allegedly set his two dogs on the man before dousing him with accelerant and setting him alight.

The woman was burnt attempting to extinguish the flames.

The pair both suffered serious burns and were treated by paramedics before being taken to Wollongong Hospital.

The man has since been flown to Concord Hospital in Sydney for specialised treatment as he fights for his life.

The woman is in a stable condition.

The alleged offender was arrested around an hour later and has since been charged with laying down an explosive with intent to maim or cause grievous bodily harm.

He will appear at Wollongong Local Court today and a search warrant has been executed his home.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
