A man has been found dead following the stabbing of a woman in Melbourne’s west overnight.
Police say the 63-year-old man, who was found dead this afternoon, was wanted in relation to the death of the 50-year-old woman who was killed on Main Road at St Albans today.
The woman, who was found suffering life-threatening injuries at a unit block at 12.30am, has been described as a beautiful soul.
Neighbours reported hearing loud screams shortly before the 50-year-old was fatally stabbed.
“She didn’t say anything – I just heard scream and scream. It was between a scream and crying, very loud,” one witness said.
“I feel very upset and nervous because it’s not good when this is going on next door.”
The woman suffered critical injuries and was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital, but died on the way.
It’s understood the 50-year-old had been spending time at her cousin’s home in St Albans when she was brutally stabbed.
Alfred Russo, a neighbour, said the “screaming went for about a minute”.
Police blocked access to homes for more than ten hours as forensic officers examined the scene.
The exact circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are unknown.
Police have not confirmed whether the man and woman were known to each other, but have confirmed they are not looking for anyone else.
