A Queensland family are lucky to be alive after being pulled from their burning car by strangers just in time.

Noela Dillon was attempting a hill start after taking over driving from her daughter at Mount Tamborine when the car rolled.

“I pulled on the hand break and it just kept rolling,” Ms Dillon said.

The Nissan crashed into an embankment, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

A passing car and postal officer stopped, pulling Ms Dillon and her three grandchildren from the car seconds before it exploded.

“They were real heroes, they could have been blown to smithereens, they saved my life,” Ms Dillon said.

Emergency crews praised the three local men who risked their lives to save the family.

“Luckily some members of the public got there pretty quickly and pulled them out before it got too serious,” a firefighter said.

The family were treated at the scene by paramedics and only suffered minor injuries.
