A man was allegedly caught with $1800 stuffed into his underwear when he arrived home to find police waiting for him after he robbed a Brisbane pub.

Apelu Tuato Ioane, 28, and another man allegedly used knives to threaten staff before jumping across the bar to steal cash from the Red Lion Hotel at Moorooka yesterday, Brisbane Magistrates Court heard today.

The court heard Mr Ioane then drove to his home at Inala, in Brisbane's west, in a car matching the description of the getaway car, to find police waiting for him.

Officers allegedly found $1818 stuffed in his underwear - just over half of the $3000 taken from the hotel - and a balaclava in his possession.

Mr Ioane applied for bail on the charge of robbery while armed and in company, with his lawyer arguing there had been no actual identification of his client.

However, Magistrate Anthony Gett described the circumstantial case as "moderate."

Mr Gett said there were a number of factors, including the timing of Mr Ioane's arrival home, the car he was driving, and the cash in the underwear, that supported the Crown's allegations.

He refused to grant bail, noting that Mr Ioane had been given a five-year suspended jail sentence for another armed robbery only two months ago.

The matter has been adjourned until March 13.
