Police identify man wanted after alleged stabbing of ‘heroic’ Italian chef

Police are searching for 21-year-old Kenneth "Kenny" Scarlett after the alleged stabbing of an Italian chef outside Melbourne’s Crown Casino Melbourne on Friday night.

Luigi Spina, 24, had just finished work at a nearby restaurant when he noticed a man allegedly assaulting a woman on the Yarra Promenade about 11.30pm.

Mr Spina, who arrived in Australia last month, tried to intervene, but the alleged offender produced a knife and stabbed him in the stomach.

Detectives also believe a a woman and two other man were assaulted before the stabbing.

Images of Mr Scarlett have been released by authorities today in relation to the alleged attack.

Mr Scarlett is described as having a Caucasian appearance, with a solid build, about 180cm tall, with short light brown hair and brown eyes.

He is known to use public transport and frequent the Mill Park and Heidelberg areas.

Police praised the actions of Mr Spina as “heroic” yesterday.

“But we encourage people to not step in when these things occur,” Detective Senior Constable Jon Amore said.

Mr Spina is now recovering and is in a stable condition in hospital.
