Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has said she plans to slap new sanctions on North Korea over its "reckless" nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
The new sanctions will target the rogue nation's extractives industry and its vessels, Ms Bishop said in an official statement this afternoon.
“They will build on tough sanctions we already have in place,” she wrote.
Ms Bishop tweeted she was “seeking public comment” on the proposal.

The plans come in wake of North Korea’s controversial ballistic missile test on February 12.
The weapon flew about 500 kilometres towards Japan before splashing into the sea east of the Korean peninsula.
