Police investigating the deaths of a man and woman at a home in the western Sydney suburb of Smithfield are "not seeking other parties" over the case.

A relative found the bodies of the man, believed to be aged in his 40s, and the woman, believed to be aged in her 30s, in The Horsley Drive home yesterday and alerted police.

A three-year-old girl was also found asleep and unharmed in the home.

Police today said they are yet to formally identify the remains.

The toddler is now safe and "being cared for", police said.

Officers will continue to investigate the case, with a focus on establishing the relationship between the pair.

"At this stage no other parties are being sought in relation to the matter," the police statement read.

Yesterday, some neighbours told The Daily Telegraph that the couple who lived at the home had recently separated and the woman and young girl had moved out earlier this year.

"She has been gone for months. She took the daughter with her, so I was surprised to see her car there today," one neighbour said.

Police will prepare a report on the deaths for the Coroner.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
