A Reddit user has shared a rather alarming wedding invite – disguised as an official notice – issued by a sheriff friend.
User Exsupervillain posted photos of the notice for the wedding of friends “Matt and Nancy” late last week.
The disturbingly official-looking invite – delivered in an envelope marked "notice to appear" and "urgent" – is laid out in the format of a citation and sealed with a Californian sheriff’s star and date stamp.
Upon closer inspection it is revealed to contain information regarding a wedding, scheduled for May 26.
“My aunt is marrying a sheriff. Their invitation nearly gave everyone a heart attack,” the caption reads.
The photos have since been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.
Viewers have commented with suggestions for wedding gifts, ranging from “handcuffs” to “jailhouse hooch” and “shivs”.
