Two baby girls have been safely delivered at ambulance stations during Cyclone Debbie, after their mothers were cut off by floodwaters and unable to get to hospital.

One baby was delivered at the Whitsunday ambulance station at Cannonvale early this morning.

Emergency services responded to a call just after midnight from a heavily pregnant woman who was about to give birth.

“When we went out it was very, very dark everywhere,” paramedic Pamela Price told 9NEWS.

“We got to the house and it was all dark.”

Queensland Ambulance officer David Hartley said the team who assisted with the birth did a “tremendous job”.

“Unfortunately there were a lot of road closures going on in the area, so we transported the lady back to the ambulance station where she delivered a healthy baby girl,” Mr Hartley said.

A local doctor was able to help with the delivery and baby and Billyanna was born at 4.20am.

Another baby girl was delivered at the Nebo Ambulance Station, south west of Mackay, about 10.30am today.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the news was “wonderful” in the midst of what has otherwise been a devastating situation for Queenslanders.

“I came in this morning, a big smile on my face,” she told 9NEWS.

“Out of all this adversity, to hear something like that, I mean everyone should be smiling today.”
