Four men are on the run after allegedly using cricket bats to attack a number of people and steal a car in Melbourne’s north overnight.
Nicolas Tonna, 22, told 9NEWS he was arriving for work at shopping centre, on Aitken Boulevard and Grand Parade in Craigieburn about 3.25pm, when he was confronted by a group of men.
"I was approached by about three to four African males, all dressed in black," Mr Tonna said.
"(They were) brandishing weapons and asking for everything I had."
The offenders allegedly took Mr Tonna's wallet and phone, before speeding off in his 1998 gold Holden Commodore.
"It's terrifying. I wouldn't imagine doing something like this to another person."
Five minutes later, the thugs allegedly used a cricket bat to hit a 40-year-old woman on the head on Aitken Boulevard.
She was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The offenders then drove Mr Tonna's car to Geelong Road, Brooklyn, where they allegedly held up a service station about 5am.
Using a knife and cricket bat, they demanded the store worker handed over cash and cigarettes.
Another man filling up his car with petrol was also threatened, but was not robbed.
The group then fled the scene in the Commodore, with registration PGJ 268.
"We have a terrible situation today. Brazen, brutal violence. People who will be traumatised for years to come," Liberal MP John Pesutto said.
"Melbourne has become one dangerous lottery and Victorians deserve better than this."
The gang remains on the run with Mr Tonna's car.
