A Current Affair reporter Ben McCormack has been taken to hospital while on bail over alleged child pornography offences.

McCormack’s lawyer Sam Macedone confirmed his client was admitted to hospital for an "assessment".

"All I know is he is in hospital for some kind of ailment," Mr Macedone told 9news.com.au.

McCormack, 42, was last week charged with using a carriage service for child pornography material.

He was granted strict conditional bail ahead of a scheduled court appearance on May 1.

As part of his bail conditions, McCormack was due to report to Redfern Police Station twice a week but he was unable to do so today.

Mr Macedone said he had advised police McCormack would not be able to attend.

He added he hoped to have the journalist's bail conditions varied as he seeks treatment in hospital.

The senior reporter, who has worked at Nine for more than two decades, remains suspended from duties at the network.
