A 16-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly hitting another teenage boy in the head with a metal scooter near Wollongong.

The victim, also aged 16, was walking with a friend down a laneway in Albion Park on Saturday afternoon when he was allegedly attacked.

A 14-year-old boy was also allegedly involved in the attack.

Both alleged offenders are accused of fleeing the incident, leaving the injured teen on the ground.

The teen remains in the intensive care unit at Wollongong Hospital in an induced coma, after emergency surgery to stem a bleed on his brain.

Police arrested the 16-year-old accused at his girlfriend’s sister’s home in Warilla last night, and charged him with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He appeared in a children’s court this morning and didn’t apply for bail during a brief mention.

The alleged offender will reappear at Port Kembla Court tomorrow and may make an application for release.

The 14-year-old boy has been dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
