Police have impounded an Adelaide man’s car after he was caught trying to tow a large rainwater tank on a broken trailer.

Officers noticed the car and tank travelling along Robert Road in Adelaide’s north just before 5.30pm yesterday.

The vehicle had no view to its rear and was dangerously overloaded, with only a strap holding the trailer to the car.

Police said the trailer had no number plates, indicators, brake lights nor tail lights visible.

One of the tyres on the trailer had blown and was on the rim.

The driver, a 28-year-old Elizabeth Park man, was found to have a disqualified licence and an unregistered vehicle.

He was submitted to a drug test which returned a positive result for methamphetamine.

He was reported for several traffic offences and his car has been impounded for four weeks.

The driver is expected to appear in court at a later date.
