A Queensland family’s dog has been killed in what police have described as a “sickening” attack.

“Scruffy”, a 17-year-old Maltese terrier, was found dead by his owners at their Bardon home on Friday.

Police believe the pup was attacked in the yard of the house sometime between 10.30am and 3.00pm.

Authorities said a towel was removed from the clothes line and tied around Scruffy’s neck.

The dog was located at the back of the property, where he had been bound to a plant with a towel.

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate those responsible for the attack.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
