Molly Meldrum has spoken out about the moment he took over Samuel Johnson’s Gold Logie acceptance speech on Monday night, which caused social media to explode.
The 74-year-old came on stage to rapturous applause during Johnson's speech, which he was making for his portrayal of the music legend in the two-part miniseries Molly.

He interrupted the actor and spoke for several minutes before presenting him with gold cowboy hat.
Meldrum said he only wanted to present Johnson with the gift and got “caught up in the moment”.
“I just wanted to give Sam the hat,” Meldrum told News Corp.
“I wasn’t sure if he’d win the gold, not that he didn’t deserve it, but it took me by surprise and I got a bit caught up in the moment.”
Meldrum shocked the crowd by swearing and speaking for almost eight minutes, with some complaining he overshadowed Johnson.
“I profusely apologise if I upset anyone,” he said.
“I am so very proud of Sam. Everyone should be proud of him.
“His speech for his sister Connie was beautiful and his charity work is simply amazing. He’s gone through a lot lately.
“If people had problems understanding what I was trying to say, well, that’s nothing new for me.”
Meldrum has been suffering health problems after he fell from a roof in 2011 that saw him close to death and in an induced coma for five weeks.
Johnson said he was fine with sharing the stage with Molly, and his sister Connie “loved it”.
