A mother has been killed and her daughter injured when an ambulance they were travelling in rolled in Adelaide’s north.

Karen Biddell, 48, was being transferred to Royal Adelaide Hospital after a planned pick-up at her home in Port Pirie, along with her 16-year-old daughter.

The bariatric ambulance, a vehicle used to transport obese patients, rolled on Port Wakefield Road in Virginia about 2.45am this morning.

Ms Biddell died at the scene, and her daughter suffered minor injuries.

Two paramedics were injured and rushed to Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The 38-year-old ambulance driver will now be charged with causing death by dangerous driving, and will appear in court at a later date.

The paramedic crew were eight hours into their planned 12-hour nightshift.

SA Ambulance said an initial review suggested there were no issues with working times or long distance night driving.
