A Chihuahua puppy remains missing after allegedly being stolen from a Melbourne pet shop by two women last month.

The women, believed to be aged between 18 and 21, spent about 30 minutes inside the shop in a Latrobe Street shopping centre late on April 15 before one of them entered a pen containing a litter of pups.

Police said she removed a light brown 12-week-old Chihuahua from the pen and placed it inside her jacket before leaving the store, followed by her friend.

The first female is described as Caucasian, aged 18 to 21, about 165cm tall with a medium build and long dark brown hair.

The second is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged 18 to 21, also about 165 cm, tall with a slim build and medium length dark brown hair.

Images of two girls have been released and police are keen to talk to anyone who has information.
