Victoria’s already saturated catchments are set to receive another torrent of rain, the Bureau of Meteorology has warned.

Up to 50mm of rain is expected to fall in north-western Victoria overnight, including the areas of Bendigo, Swan Hill and Horsham.

“We are constantly monitoring the situation and urge people to keep up to date with weather warnings,” the BoM’s Acting Severe Weather Manager Steven McGibbony said.

The inundated town of Casterton, in the state’s south-west, is under threat of more flooding.

“The Casterton area could receive another five to 20mm from midnight, so there is potential for renewed flooding,” Mr McGibbony said.

More than 10 homes in the town were damaged by flooding over the weekend, after the nearby Glenelg River swelled to over six metres.

Community meetings are expected to be held at Casterton and nearby town of Coleraine this evening.

Melbourne is expected to receive 20mm of rain in the next 24 hours, but no flood warnings are currently in place.

The State Emergency Service has warned Victorians to be vigilant in areas affected by flooding.

“Tune into emergency broadcasters so you’re up-to-date with the latest conditions and if possible, make sure your neighbours are aware of the situation,”  VICSES Chief Officer of Operations Trevor White said.
