A future groom has suffered serious injuries after he was allegedly hit by his brother's car during an engagement party on the Gold Coast.

Police believe the man, 32, was celebrating his engagement in Tallai when he got into an argument with his older brother yesterday night.

"Towards the end of the night things got a little out of hand, a little heated," the younger man's friend, Nick Gleeson, told 9NEWS.

"There was a couple of arguments and then everything came out onto the street here," Mr Gleeson added.

The older brother, 39, then tried to leave in his car, but was stopped by his younger sibling, who jumped in front of the vehicle.

The impact allegedly caused the future groom to be rammed and thrown into the air, landing on the nature strip.

"He was in a bad shape, yeah he wasn't moving much, but he was awake, remained conscious the whole time," Mr Gleeson said.

The 32-year-old was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with fractures to his arms and legs.

His brother was arrested by police and has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm.
