Melbourne has been lashed by damaging winds which have brought down trees and cut power to thousands of homes.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has issued a severe weather warning, as winds continue to average between 50km/h to 60km/h, with damaging peak gusts of around 100km/h possible over Northern Country, North Central, Central, Northeast, West and South Gippsland and parts of the East Gippsland districts.

The BoM said a gust of 117km/h were recorded at Fawkner Beacon this afternoon.
Shortly after midday, strong winds that lashed Melbourne downed a tree onto a Mount Waverley property, in Melbourne's south-east. No injuries were reported but SES crews are now working to clear the debris.

The SES are also working to restore power to thousands of people in suburbs including Noble Park and Richmond.
Winds are expected to ease from the west later this evening, the BoM said.
Severe weather warnings have already been cancelled for Mallee, South West and Wimmera districts.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony
- Keep clear of fallen power lines.
