One person has died and another nine are injured after a shooting in New Orleans during the Bayou Classic.
New Orleans police are investigating after the shooting on the corner of Iberville and Bourbon Streets in the city's famous French Quarter around 1.30am local time (7.30pm AEDT).
Superintendent Michael Harrison told reporters 30 police officers were already in the area conducting patrols after the earlier Bayou Classic college football game.
"Ten victims were shot ranging from ages 20 to 37, two females, eight males, one of whom has expired at the hospital," Supt Harrison said.
He said two men were arrested at the scene, including one of the victims, for illegally carrying a firearm.
"This is not something that should have happened. This is the wrong place to bring firearms, we made that clear," Supt Harrison said.
He said police were still investigating whether either of the firearms seized from the two men were discharged at the scene.
