Eleven beach boxes and several jetties have been ravaged by graffiti overnight along the coastline of the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.

Owners of boxes along Point King Beach in Sorrento woke this morning to find their beloved property tarnished by unknown offenders, following last night’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Images obtained by 9NEWS show the usually pristine boxes emblazoned with colourful graffiti.

Christie Woods, whose family owns one of the boxes, told nine.com.au "everyone was very upset" by the incident.

"It's horrible! We all now have to paint the boxes to get rid of the graffiti," she said.

"It is really disgusting that these (vandals) think they can destroy private property like that," adding that the railing of her family beach box was also damaged.

Children playing this morning also discovered packets of pills, suspected to be illicit drugs, left on the foreshore.

“There was a lot of alcohol and drugs down there last night… thank goodness the ambulances were there,” local Andrew Pleasance said.

The vandalism attack has left many locals calling for more restrictions to be applied to next year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.

“I think we've had many summers of problems at this beach and I think we should have security,” beach box owner Pamela Murphy added.

A police investigation into the incident is underway.
