Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found with serious head injuries in a shopping centre carpark in Melbourne’s east by members of a group fitness class this morning.
The man was found in a lift well at Westfield Doncaster just after 6.10am today.
The Heavy Haulers exercise group was about to hold its regular boot camp session nearby this morning when they made the discovery. They assisted with CPR, but the man died at the scene.
"Unfortunately despite the attempts from our team and members he was unable to be revived and passed away," the fitness group wrote on its Facebook page today.
Forensic offers tracked a trail of blood through a set of stairs in the carpark towards nearby Berkley Street.
Authorities spent hours examining the area but have not released information on the victim or the circumstances surrounding his death.
"You think you're generally safe in Doncaster so it's pretty surprising and sad," shopper Ceinwen McCann told 9NEWS.
Authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the mall.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
