Queensland police have farewelled a service dog who died after suffering heat stress while on the job.
Waco was tracking an offender in the Deception Bay area around 2pm yesterday when his handler noticed him becoming unsteady on his feet.
The eight-year-old police dog was immediately provided with water and transported to a veterinary surgery.
Waco died at 5am today after attempts to lower his body temperature and replace his fluids failed.
His handler, a senior constable, is devastated by the loss.
