Three fishermen have had a lucky escape after their small boat capsized in dangerous surf off the Sunshine Coast.
Video showed the vessel rolling over in the large waves at Caloundra this afternoon.
Witnesses told 9NEWS they “couldn’t believe their eyes” as the emergency unfolded.
“It just flipped, rolled straight over in a big breaker,” John Drury said.
The anglers were flung into the water and out of sight of the witnesses, sparking fears for the worst.
“We rang Triple Zero, the coast guard and emergency services and tried to get things happening,” Mr Drury said.
The trio managed to swim to Bribie Island, where lifesavers towed them to safety on a jetski.
One of the group, aged 53, suffered a blow to the head after the boat flipped.
It remains unclear if the anglers were wearing lifejackets.
