The man accused of murdering Tiahleigh Palmer reportedly took pills while in police custody and is in an induced coma in hospital.
The Albert and Logan News reports Rick Thorburn, 56, took the pills at either Logan Central Police Station or Beenleigh Watch House after his arrest yesterday.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman could not comment on the report, but said an investigation was underway.
"A 56-year-old man was transported from the Beenleigh Watch House to the Princess Alexandra hospital yesterday after falling ill," she said.
"The Ethical Standards Command is reviewing the circumstances of the matter."
Mr Thorburn was due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court today, however his lawyer Kelly Thompson told the court he was in an induced coma.
She would not comment on whether his condition was a result of self-harm.
Mr Thorburn's matter was adjourned until December 21.
The court was told today Mr Thorburn's son Trent had been concerned Tiahleigh was pregnant before the alleged murder.
